Description: Fore Systems ATM channel configuration MIB providing virtual channel and virtual path parameter management on ForeRunner switch interfaces.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Fore-Channel-Config-MIB?
This is a vendor-specific MIB from Fore Systems for configuring channelized operating modes on ForeRunner ATM switch interfaces, particularly the Channelized OC12 network module. It exposes a single configuration table controlling whether a port operates as a full-rate STS12c ATM cell stream or is subdivided into channelized STS3c/DS3 sub-streams. Its role is primarily configuration rather than runtime health monitoring, though the configured mode itself is a piece of operational state an administrator needs to verify matches the intended provisioning of the port. It has an implicit dependency on Fore's broader ATM/SONET interface MIB family and standard SONET/ATM concepts (STS12, STS3c, DS3) rather than defining them itself. It is typically deployed on ForeRunner ATM switches carrying mixed SONET/DS3 channelized traffic in service-provider or enterprise ATM backbones. Engineers can download the Fore-Channel-Config-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Fore-Channel-Config-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Fore Systems ForeRunner ATM switch with Channelized OC12 network module
Monitoring Examples
An administrator reads channelConfigTable/channelConfigEntry, indexed per interface, to check channelConfigMode and confirm whether a given Channelized OC12 port is running as a single STS12c stream or split into 4 STS3c / 12xDS3 channelized paths. A mismatch between the expected and actual channelConfigMode would explain why expected DS3 sub-interfaces are missing or why the port is rejecting the expected cell rate. Because this MIB exposes only configuration mode, not counters or alarms, it is used mainly to audit provisioning rather than to track ongoing performance.
What Can Be Monitored
- channelized vs. concatenated port operating mode
