Category: ATM

Description: Defines ATM-specific accounting information items applicable to ATM connections, used for collecting connection-level accounting data on ATM networks.

IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring ATM-ACCOUNTING-INFORMATION-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.

What Is ATM-ACCOUNTING-INFORMATION-MIB?

ATM-ACCOUNTING-INFORMATION-MIB is a vendor-neutral, ATM Forum/IETF-style MIB that defines accounting information applicable to ATM connections, used for collecting connection-level usage records rather than device health data. It exposes per-connection fields such as connection and cast type, VPI/VCI, calling and called party addresses, call reference, and start/collection timestamps, along with the accounting collection mode in effect. Its monitoring role is oriented toward usage/billing accountability rather than hardware or software status - though a stalled or erroring collection mode can indirectly reveal an accounting subsystem problem on the switch. It depends on the underlying ATM signalling and interface framework (e.g., ifName/ifAlias-linked ATM interfaces) for the connections it describes. It is deployed on ATM switches and ATM-capable routers that need to produce usage records for billing or audit. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the ATM-ACCOUNTING-INFORMATION-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ATM-ACCOUNTING-INFORMATION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • ATM switch or ATM-capable router

Monitoring Examples

An admin or billing system would poll atmAcctngConnectionType and atmAcctngCastType per call alongside atmAcctngVpi/atmAcctngVci and atmAcctngIfName to identify which virtual circuit a record belongs to, then use atmAcctngCallingParty/atmAcctngCalledParty and atmAcctngStartTime/atmAcctngCollectionTime to reconstruct the call's accounting record. An unexpected value in atmAcctngCollectMode across many records would indicate the accounting collection process itself is misconfigured or failing.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ATM connection/cast type
  • VPI/VCI per connection
  • calling/called party address
  • call start and collection time
  • accounting collection mode
