Category: ATM, Vendor: Huawei

Description: Huawei IMA (Inverse Multiplexing for ATM) extension MIB providing supplementary objects for IMA group management and performance monitoring.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-IMA-EXT-MIB?

HUAWEI-IMA-EXT-MIB is a Huawei-proprietary extension MIB supplementing standard IMA (Inverse Multiplexing for ATM) management, adding objects for IMA group management and performance monitoring beyond what the standard ATM-Forum IMA MIB defines. It exposes configuration objects for IMA group membership (which physical links are bundled into a logical IMA group) and performance/status counters for the aggregated link. Its monitoring value is in link-bundling hardware status: tracking how many links in an IMA group are active versus failed, and aggregate bandwidth/performance, which reveals a degraded IMA group operating at reduced capacity due to one or more failed member links. It explicitly builds on and extends the standard IMA MIB (af-phy-0086) framework for inverse-multiplexed ATM links. It is deployed on Huawei ATM/multiservice access equipment using IMA to bundle multiple E1/T1 links into a higher-bandwidth logical ATM link. Engineers can download the HUAWEI-IMA-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-IMA-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei ATM/multiservice access equipment with IMA

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll an IMA group table (patterned as hwImaGroupTable, though not confirmed from source) to see how many member links are currently active in an IMA bundle, with a drop in active-link count indicating one or more E1/T1 links have failed and the group is running at reduced aggregate bandwidth. No sample_objects were provided for this module, so specific object names are inferred rather than confirmed from source.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IMA group active link count
  • IMA group aggregate bandwidth/performance
  • member link status
  • IMA group configuration
