Category: DSL and Broadband, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent
Description: Manages VDSL network interface performance statistics and line status on Ascend DSL equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ASCEND-MIBVDSLNET-MIB?
This is a proprietary Ascend Communications MIB for VDSL network interface performance statistics and line status on Ascend DSL access equipment. It exposes per-line VDSL performance counters and operational/line status indicators. It is used directly for monitoring hardware status of VDSL lines — tracking line up/down state, error counters, and signal-quality-related statistics to detect degrading or failed subscriber loops. It generally parallels the structure of standard xDSL performance MIBs (such as VDSL-LINE-MIB) though implemented as an Ascend-proprietary extension. It is deployed on Ascend VDSL access multiplexers/DSLAMs delivering high-bandwidth broadband service to subscribers. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MIBVDSLNET-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBVDSLNET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ascend VDSL DSLAM/access multiplexer
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were captured, but a VDSL network MIB of this kind typically exposes a per-line statistics table (an ascendVdslNet*Table/Entry pattern) with line status and error/attenuation counters. An operator would poll this table to detect a VDSL line transitioning from up to a degraded or down state, indicating a subscriber-facing service outage that needs a truck roll or line re-sync.
What Can Be Monitored
- VDSL line operational status
- line error counters
- signal-quality statistics
