Category: SNMP Framework, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent

Description: Manages SNMPv3 view-based access control model configuration on Ascend access equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-MIBVACM-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBVACM-MIB is a proprietary Ascend module managing SNMPv3 View-Based Access Control Model (VACM) configuration on Ascend access equipment. It exposes configuration data for SNMPv3 security groups, views, and access rules that determine which SNMP entities may read or write which portions of the device's MIB tree. Its role is entirely software/configuration status oriented — it is used to audit and confirm that SNMPv3 access control is configured as intended, rather than to monitor runtime performance or hardware health. It closely tracks the IETF standard SNMP-VIEW-BASED-ACM-MIB (RFC 3415), implementing an Ascend-specific variant or extension of that model. It is deployed on Ascend access equipment wherever SNMPv3 is used for secure, access-controlled device management. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MIBVACM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBVACM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend access equipment (general, SNMPv3-managed)

Monitoring Examples

sample_objects was empty for this module, so the following is inferred from its declared purpose. An administrator would review VACM group and access-rule entries to confirm a given SNMPv3 user has only the intended read or read-write access to specific MIB views, and would treat an unexpectedly broad access rule as a security misconfiguration to correct. This module is typically audited during security reviews rather than polled continuously like a performance MIB.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VACM group/user assignments
  • MIB view definitions
  • access rule (read/write) permissions
