What Is ASCEND-MIBVDSL-MIB?
ASCEND-MIBVDSL-MIB is a proprietary Ascend Communications MIB for configuring VDSL line profiles and reporting VDSL operational parameters on Ascend DSL access equipment. It exposes configuration data (line profile, rate selection) together with operational/status data reflecting the current sync state and signal quality of each VDSL line. This is a hardware-status MIB in practice, since its most useful data points are whether a line is synced, its achieved upstream/downstream rate, and signal-to-noise margin, all of which indicate copper-line quality and modem health. It is typically deployed alongside the vendor's other DSL-family MIBs (ADSL/SDSL) sharing a common line-diagnostic and slot-configuration framework. It was used by telcos and ISPs delivering VDSL broadband service from DSLAM chassis to subscribers. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MIBVDSL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBVDSL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ascend DSLAM chassis
- Ascend VDSL line card/modem
- Ascend Communications (later Lucent) TAOS-based DSLAM chassis and VDSL line cards
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll the VDSL line status table (an ascendVdslLineTable/ascendVdslLineEntry style structure) for a subscriber port to check sync state, achieved data rate, and signal-to-noise ratio, treating a line that drops sync repeatedly or shows a declining SNR as evidence of line degradation needing a truck roll. No sample objects were provided for this MIB, so these names are inferred from the stated VDSL purpose rather than confirmed source identifiers.
What Can Be Monitored
- line sync status
- upstream/downstream data rate
- signal-to-noise ratio
- line profile configuration
- line rate selection
