Category: DSL and Broadband, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent

Description: Defines DSL performance threshold configuration and threshold-crossing alerts on Ascend equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-MIBDSLTHRESH-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBDSLTHRESH-MIB is a proprietary Ascend module that defines performance threshold configuration and threshold-crossing alert (TCA) behavior for DSL lines on Ascend DSL access equipment. It exposes configurable threshold values for DSL performance parameters (such as error rates) alongside the alerting/trap behavior triggered when a line crosses those thresholds. Its monitoring value is squarely in fault detection: it lets an operator be notified when a DSL line's error or noise-margin performance degrades past an acceptable level, functioning as an early-warning system for line/hardware degradation. It parallels concepts found in IETF xDSL performance MIBs (e.g. HDSL2-SHDSL-LINE-MIB, ADSL-LINE-MIB) but implements its own threshold/alert object tree. It is deployed on DSLAM and DSL access multiplexer equipment in carrier or enterprise broadband access networks. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MIBDSLTHRESH-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBDSLTHRESH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend DSLAM
  • Ascend DSL access equipment

Monitoring Examples

sample_objects was empty for this module; the following is inferred from its declared purpose. An operator would configure per-line threshold values for error events and would rely on generated traps to learn when a specific DSL port has crossed its configured threshold, indicating a physical line problem worth dispatching a technician for. This threshold data is normally reviewed alongside a DSL line performance MIB that reports the underlying raw counters.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DSL performance threshold settings
  • threshold-crossing alert/trap status
  • per-line error-rate thresholds
