Category: RADIUS and AAA, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent

Description: Manages TACACS+ authentication server configuration and accounting on Ascend access equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-MIBTACL-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBTACL-MIB is an Ascend Communications (later Lucent) proprietary MIB configuring terminal access control list (TACL) profiles on Ascend MAX/Pipeline access equipment, an early packet-filtering feature. Each TACL profile enables or denies traffic by default and references an ordered permit-list table of individual filter entries. As a configuration/security MIB it lets an administrator audit which TACL profiles are active and inspect their permit-list entries when troubleshooting unexpected traffic filtering behavior. It is deployed on Ascend/Lucent WAN access routers using TACL-based packet filtering. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MIBTACL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBTACL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend Communications (Lucent) MAX/Pipeline WAN access routers

Monitoring Examples

An administrator reviews taclProfile-EnablePermit alongside the profile's mibtaclProfile-PermitListTable entries to confirm a specific traffic pattern is (or isn't) intentionally permitted by the configured filter.

What Can Be Monitored

  • TACL profile default action
  • ordered permit-list filter entries
