Description: HH3C MIB for web-based authentication managing captive portal and HTTP redirect authentication on H3C devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-WEB-AUTHENTICATION-MIB?

HH3C-WEB-AUTHENTICATION-MIB is a private H3C enterprise MIB dedicated to sending traps for the web-based (captive portal) authentication feature, where client devices are redirected to a login page before gaining network access. Per its module description, its purpose is specifically to generate notifications rather than expose polled configuration/status tables, covering the VLAN, client MAC address, and reason/action codes associated with a web-authentication event. Its monitoring value is event-driven, alerting operators to authentication successes, failures, or client actions in near real time, which supports security and network-access auditing on the software/control-plane side of the device. It naturally depends on the underlying HH3C user/AAA MIBs, since web authentication ultimately validates against the same user credential store. It is deployed on H3C switches and wireless controllers offering portal-based guest or BYOD network access. Engineers can download the HH3C-WEB-AUTHENTICATION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-WEB-AUTHENTICATION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C switches
  • H3C wireless controllers/access points

Monitoring Examples

A monitoring station configured to receive hh3cWaTrap notifications would inspect hh3cWaClientMacAddr to identify the client involved, hh3cWaVlanID for the access VLAN, and hh3cWaReasonCode/hh3cWaActionCode to determine whether the trap represents a successful login, a failed authentication attempt, or a forced logoff. A spike in failure-reason traps from many distinct MAC addresses on one VLAN could indicate a captive-portal misconfiguration or a credential-guessing attempt.

What Can Be Monitored

  • web-authentication trap events
  • client MAC address involved in auth event
  • VLAN of the authenticating client
  • authentication reason/result code
  • authentication action taken
