Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-MIBSTMNET-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBSTMNET-MIB is a proprietary Ascend MIB managing STM SONET/SDH network-level path configuration on optical WAN equipment. It exposes path-level configuration and status for SONET/SDH transport, including alarm conditions and performance data at the optical path layer. Its monitoring focus is squarely on physical/optical hardware health: path alarms and performance counters reveal signal degradation, loss of frame, or other optical transport faults that would otherwise silently degrade the WAN circuit carried over it. It builds on standard SONET/SDH MIB path-layer conventions with Ascend-specific extensions. It was deployed on Ascend optical WAN aggregation equipment connecting to carrier SONET/SDH transport networks. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MIBSTMNET-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBSTMNET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend optical WAN aggregation equipment (SONET/SDH interfaces)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls the STM path configuration and alarm-status objects to check for conditions such as loss of frame or path-level bit errors on the optical circuit. An active path alarm combined with rising performance-counter error rates indicates a degrading optical transport link, often requiring escalation to the carrier. Path configuration objects are also checked after a circuit re-provisioning to confirm the new path parameters took effect correctly.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SONET/SDH path alarm status
  • path performance/error counters
  • path configuration parameters
  • loss of frame/signal conditions
