Category: Device Management, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent

Description: Manages session hash table configuration for connection lookup on Ascend access equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-MIBSHASH-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBSHASH-MIB is a proprietary Ascend MIB managing the session hash table used internally for connection lookup on access equipment. It exposes configuration objects for hash-table sizing and behavior along with status data reflecting how the table is being used to index active sessions/connections. Its monitoring value is a software/internal-capacity indicator rather than physical hardware health: hash-table utilization or collision-related status can reveal that the device's session-lookup structures are approaching capacity, which can degrade call-setup performance under high session load. It underpins the session-tracking used by companion MIBs such as ASCEND-CALL-MIB, since fast connection lookup depends on this hash table. It was deployed on Ascend WAN/dial access concentrators handling large numbers of simultaneous sessions. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MIBSHASH-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBSHASH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend WAN/dial access concentrators (e.g., MAX, TNT series)

Monitoring Examples

An operator checks the session hash table's configured size against its current utilization to see how close the device is to its internal session-lookup capacity. A hash table nearing full utilization during peak call volume can correlate with slower call setup times or connection failures reported in ASCEND-CALL-MIB. Adjusting the hash table configuration is one lever an admin can use if a chassis is consistently running near its session-lookup limit.

What Can Be Monitored

  • session hash table size/configuration
  • hash table utilization
  • connection lookup capacity
  • session table status
