ASCEND-MIBDS3ATMNET-MIB is a proprietary Ascend MIB managing DS3-based ATM network interface configuration and cell-layer performance. It exposes DS3 physical-line configuration and alarm status together with ATM cell statistics and performance counters for the interface. Its monitoring value is strongly hardware/interface oriented: DS3 alarm and error status reveal physical-layer faults such as loss of signal or framing errors, while ATM cell error and discard counters expose congestion or cell-layer faults on the trunk, both critical to keeping a WAN edge circuit healthy. It builds on standard DS3/T3 and ATM MIB conventions with Ascend-specific extensions layered on top. It was deployed on Ascend WAN edge/aggregation devices connecting to carrier DS3 ATM trunks at ISPs, where ASCEND-MIBDS3ATMNET-MIB SNMP monitoring helped confirm DS3 physical-line and ATM cell-layer health.

An operator polls the DS3 line status/alarm objects for loss-of-signal or framing-error conditions on the physical circuit, alongside ATM cell error and discard counters for the network interface. A rising cell-loss or CRC-error count occurring together with a DS3 alarm indicates a degrading carrier circuit or a faulty physical connection. These performance counters are typically baselined and alerted on when they cross a defined threshold.
