Category: VPN and Security, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent

Description: Manages extended authentication (XAuth) parameters for IPSec VPN on Ascend access equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-MIBXAUTH-MIB?

This is a proprietary Ascend Communications MIB managing extended authentication (XAuth) parameters for IPSec VPN on Ascend access equipment. It exposes configuration objects controlling how remote VPN clients are challenged for username/password credentials as part of IKE Phase 1.5 authentication. This is primarily a security/software-configuration MIB; its monitoring value lies in confirming XAuth is correctly enabled/configured and correlating authentication failures with VPN connectivity problems, rather than exposing hardware counters. It builds on the underlying IPSec/IKE mechanisms Ascend implemented in its VPN gateway software, complementing rather than depending on any single standard MIB. It is deployed on Ascend VPN gateway/access equipment terminating remote-access IPSec VPN tunnels for enterprise remote workers. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MIBXAUTH-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBXAUTH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend VPN gateway/access equipment

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were captured for this module, but an XAuth MIB of this kind would typically expose configuration objects (an ascendXAuth* naming pattern) enabling/disabling extended authentication per VPN policy. An administrator would check this setting when remote users report being unable to connect, confirming whether XAuth is required and correctly configured against the expected authentication server.

What Can Be Monitored

  • XAuth enabled/disabled status
  • extended authentication configuration
