Description: Fore Systems ILMI (Interim Local Management Interface) registry MIB providing address registration and ATM address management via ILMI protocol.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Fore-IlmiRegistry-MIB?

Fore-IlmiRegistry-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Fore Systems (an early ATM switch/NIC vendor later acquired by Marconi) that supports the ILMI (Interim Local Management Interface) protocol's address registration function for ATM networks. It exposes a registry table mapping ATM ports and service IDs to registered ATM addresses, essentially configuration/state data describing which addresses are registered on which port. Its monitoring relevance is largely about software/configuration state -- confirming an ATM address registration is present and active (row status) on a given port/service -- rather than hardware sensors like temperature or fans. It is inherently tied to and dependent on the ATM Forum's ILMI protocol and address-registration conventions, since it is essentially a management surface over that protocol's registry function. It would have been deployed on Fore Systems ATM switches and network interface cards in ATM-based enterprise or carrier networks during the ATM era. Engineers can download the Fore-IlmiRegistry-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Fore-IlmiRegistry-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Fore Systems ATM switch
  • Fore Systems ATM network interface card

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would query adminIlmiRegTable/adminIlmiRegEntry using adminIlmiRegPort and adminIlmiRegServiceID as indices to retrieve the adminIlmiRegATMAddress registered for that port/service, confirming that an ATM end-station has successfully registered its address via ILMI. A stuck or missing entry, or an adminIlmiRegRowStatus not in the active state, would reveal a failed or incomplete address registration on that ATM port.

What Can Be Monitored

  • registered ATM address per port/service
  • ILMI registration row status
  • address index per registration entry
  • registration parameter (Parm1) values
