Description: Manages ATM quality of service parameters including CBR, VBR, and ABR on Ascend equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ASCEND-MIBATMQOS-MIB?
This proprietary Ascend Communications MIB manages ATM Quality of Service parameters — including Constant Bit Rate (CBR), Variable Bit Rate (VBR), and Available Bit Rate (ABR) traffic classes — on Ascend ATM equipment. It exposes configuration data for QoS traffic contracts and classes assigned to ATM connections. Its monitoring value is largely on the software/configuration side: an operator checks which QoS class and traffic parameters are applied to a given connection to confirm service-level commitments are being enforced correctly, and would investigate a connection experiencing quality problems by verifying its QoS class configuration. It works together with the Ascend ATM signaling and base MIBs, since QoS parameters are negotiated as part of ATM connection setup defined by ATM Forum traffic management standards. It was deployed on legacy Ascend/Lucent ATM switches in carrier networks offering differentiated ATM service classes. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MIBATMQOS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBATMQOS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- legacy Ascend ATM switch
Monitoring Examples
No specific object or table names were included in the sampled instrumentation for this module, so a concrete polling example can't be tied to real OIDs; in general, an operator would check the CBR/VBR/ABR traffic class and traffic-contract parameters assigned to an ATM connection to confirm QoS is configured as expected, investigating if a connection experiencing cell loss or delay has a mismatched or degraded QoS profile.
What Can Be Monitored
- CBR/VBR/ABR QoS class assignment
- ATM traffic contract parameters
