Category: Routing Protocols, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent

Description: Manages IP routing table entries and static route configuration on Ascend access equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-MIBROUTE-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBROUTE-MIB is a proprietary Ascend Communications MIB for managing IP routing table entries and static route configuration on Ascend access equipment. It exposes configuration data describing static routes, next-hop addresses, and route metrics, plus read access to the router's current routing table contents. Its monitoring role is chiefly configuration/software-status verification: confirming expected static routes are present and active, and detecting missing or unexpectedly changed routes that would misdirect traffic. It parallels the standard IP-MIB/ipRouteTable objects and is typically used to cross-check Ascend-specific route attributes against that standard data. It was deployed on Ascend WAN access routers used for branch and dial-up connectivity where static routing was common. Engineers can download the ASCEND-MIBROUTE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBROUTE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend WAN access router

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll the route table (an ascendRouteTable/ascendRouteEntry style structure) to confirm a critical static route to a hub site is still present with the correct next-hop and metric, treating a missing or altered entry as the likely cause of a sudden loss of reachability to that destination. No sample objects were provided for this MIB, so these names are a plausible reconstruction from the stated routing purpose, not confirmed source identifiers.

What Can Be Monitored

  • static route entries
  • next-hop address configuration
  • route metric values
  • route table changes
  • route active/inactive status
