Category: Mobile IP, Vendor: Ascend/Lucent

Description: Manages Ascend Tunnel Management Protocol (ATMP) mobile IP tunneling sessions and configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ASCEND-ATMP-MIB?

ASCEND-ATMP-MIB is an Ascend Communications (later Lucent) proprietary MIB implementing ATMP (Ascend Tunnel Management Protocol, a mobile-IP-style precursor), which tunnels traffic between a Foreign Agent (FA) and Home Agent (HA) for roaming users. Its objects cover agent mode/type, UDP port, GRE MTU, forced-fragmentation flag, HA idle limit, last-error tracking (sent-to/received-from addresses), trap enable, FA/HA/local tunnel counts and high-water mark, and a tunnel table (ID, HA/FA IP address, tunneled protocol, type, state, mobile-node IP address). As a configuration/status MIB it lets an administrator confirm ATMP tunnel counts and state, and diagnose the last reported ATMP error. It is deployed on Ascend (Lucent) MAX/TNT remote-access equipment using ATMP. Engineers can download the ASCEND-ATMP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-ATMP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend (Lucent) MAX/TNT remote-access equipment (ATMP)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks atmpTunnelState and atmpLastErrorGenerated to diagnose a mobile-node ATMP tunnel that failed to establish on an Ascend MAX access server.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ATMP tunnel state, count, and last error
