Description: Aruba wired switch ArubaOS-CX Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol instance and port management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ARUBAWIRED-MSTP-MIB?

This is an HPE Aruba proprietary MIB for ArubaOS-CX wired switches that manages the Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP), the IEEE 802.1s-derived Layer 2 loop-prevention protocol that supports multiple spanning-tree instances mapped to VLANs. It exposes configuration and state data for MSTP instances and their participating switch ports, covering bridge/region identification, instance-to-VLAN mapping, and per-port spanning-tree roles and states. Its monitoring value is in confirming the software-level Layer 2 topology is stable — an administrator would check root bridge identity and per-port role/state (e.g., root, designated, blocking, forwarding) to detect unwanted topology changes, port flapping, or a switch unexpectedly becoming the root bridge, any of which can signal a network loop or misconfiguration. It implements the IEEE 802.1s/802.1Q Multiple Spanning Tree standard, extending the same conceptual model as the standard BRIDGE-MIB and its MSTP extensions. It is deployed on ArubaOS-CX wired switches in enterprise LANs that use MSTP for VLAN-aware Layer 2 loop prevention. Engineers can download the ARUBAWIRED-MSTP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ARUBAWIRED-MSTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Aruba ArubaOS-CX wired switch

Monitoring Examples

No specific MSTP object or table names were included in the sampled instrumentation for this module, so a concrete OID-level example can't be given; in general terms, an administrator would poll per-instance root bridge identity and per-port role/state objects to confirm the spanning tree topology is stable, and would investigate if a port unexpectedly transitions to blocking or if the root bridge identity changes, either of which can indicate a topology change or a physical loop.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MSTP instance-to-VLAN mapping
  • root bridge identification
  • per-port spanning-tree role/state
  • topology change events
