What Is ARUBAWIRED-FANTRAY-MIB?

ARUBAWIRED-FANTRAY-MIB is an HPE Aruba proprietary MIB for ArubaOS-CX wired switches, focused on fan tray hardware management. It exposes environmental hardware data such as fan tray presence, physical location (group/slot index), name, product name, serial number, count of fans per tray, and operational state, along with a notifications group. This is squarely a hardware-health monitoring MIB: fan tray state and fan count are used to detect cooling failures before they lead to thermal throttling or shutdown of the switch. It is a vendor-proprietary companion to other ArubaOS-CX MIBs (such as the system-info MIB) rather than a standards-based module, so it depends on Aruba's own conformance and notification conventions. It is typically deployed on Aruba CX switches in enterprise wiring closets and data centers, polled continuously by monitoring systems for chassis-health dashboards. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the ARUBAWIRED-FANTRAY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ARUBAWIRED-FANTRAY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Aruba CX series wired switches
  • ArubaOS-CX network switches

Monitoring Examples

An admin walks arubaWiredFanTrayTable/arubaWiredFanTrayEntry keyed by arubaWiredFanTrayGroupIndex and arubaWiredFanTraySlotIndex to read arubaWiredFanTrayState and arubaWiredFanTrayNumberFans for each tray named via arubaWiredFanTrayName. If arubaWiredFanTrayState shifts away from normal, or the reported fan count drops below the tray's expected total, that signals a failed or removed fan tray requiring replacement to avoid overheating. arubaWiredFanTrayProductName and arubaWiredFanTraySerialNumber support asset tracking for RMA, while arubaWiredFanTrayNotifications can push a trap the moment a fault occurs.

What Can Be Monitored

  • fan tray presence and operational state
  • number of fans per tray
  • fan tray product name and serial number
  • fan tray physical location (group/slot)
  • fan tray fault notifications
