Description: Monitors output queue depth, drop counters, and scheduling configuration on Arista EOS devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ARISTA-QUEUE-MIB?
ARISTA-QUEUE-MIB is a proprietary Arista Networks module generalizing ingress and egress interface queue counters across Arista's switch product line, noting that not every platform supports every counter/index defined. It exposes per-interface, per-queue tables tracking dropped packets and bytes on ingress, and packet counts by traffic type on egress, covering both admission-control drops and buffer-exhaustion drops where supported. This is a core performance/congestion monitoring module: rising drop counters on a specific queue reveal buffer exhaustion or scheduling problems causing packet loss under load. It is a self-contained EOS-specific extension without a direct standards dependency, though it parallels the general queuing concepts found in standards like DIFFSERV-MIB. It is deployed on Arista switches in any environment where queue-level congestion visibility is needed to diagnose microbursts or oversubscription. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the ARISTA-QUEUE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ARISTA-QUEUE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Arista Networks EOS switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll aristaIngressQueueTable, indexed by aristaIngressIfIndex and aristaIngressQueueIndex, reading aristaIngressQueuePktsDropped and aristaIngressQueueBytesDropped to detect ingress buffer drops. On the egress side, aristaEgressQueueTable (indexed by aristaEgressIfIndex and aristaEgressQueueIndex) exposes aristaEgressQueuePkts broken down by aristaEgressPacketType. A sustained rise in aristaIngressQueuePktsDropped on a particular queue and interface, correlated with traffic bursts, would indicate that queue is undersized or misconfigured for the offered load, causing packet loss.
What Can Be Monitored
- ingress queue packet/byte drops
- egress queue packet counts by traffic type
- per-interface, per-queue congestion indicators
