What Is ARISTA-XGS-MIB?

ARISTA-XGS-MIB is a vendor-specific Arista Networks MIB covering the XGS switching-silicon chipset used in Arista EOS-based 10GbE and higher switching platforms. It exposes queue-level buffer utilization statistics and per-interface Layer-3 traffic counters at the chipset level, alongside the standard conformance/compliance subtree. It is used for monitoring hardware/software performance status of the switch's forwarding engine -- specifically queue watermark buffer usage (potential congestion/buffer exhaustion) and hardware-level IPv4/IPv6 unicast and multicast packet counts per interface. It complements, rather than replaces, standard IF-MIB interface counters by exposing chipset-specific detail. Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll aristaXgsQueueWatermarkTable entries (indexed by aristaXgsQueueWatermarkQueueType and aristaXgsQueueWatermarkQueueId) to track aristaXgsQueueWatermarkMaxCellsUsed relative to aristaXgsQueueWatermarkCellSize, revealing whether a queue is approaching buffer exhaustion since aristaXgsQueueWatermarkLastResetTime. Simultaneously, aristaXgsIfTable rows expose aristaXgsIfTxIpV4L3UcOk, aristaXgsIfTxIpV6L3UcOk, and aristaXgsIfTxIpV4L3McOk to confirm hardware-level forwarding rates per interface. A sudden plateau in these counters combined with rising watermark values would indicate hardware queue congestion on a specific egress interface.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using aristaXgsIfTxIpV4L3UcOk OID:

Select an Arista EOS switch as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type aristaXgsIfTxIpV4L3UcOk into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of valid IPv4 Unicast packets transmitted on the interface. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
