Description: Arista EOS supervisor redundancy state, switchover history, and SSO status management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ARISTA-REDUNDANCY-MIB?

ARISTA-REDUNDANCY-MIB is an Arista Networks proprietary MIB covering control-plane redundancy on modular Arista EOS switches that support dual supervisor modules. It exposes redundancy protocol configuration and operational mode, a per-unit (supervisor) state table, and switchover history/reason codes. It is used specifically to monitor the software/hardware status of the high-availability control plane: which supervisor unit is active vs. standby, how long each has held its current state, and why the last switchover occurred, letting operators detect an unstable or unexpectedly-active/standby supervisor. Its unit indexing and notification structure follow the same style as ENTITY-MIB physical indexing and standard SNMP notification conventions used elsewhere in the Arista MIB suite. It is deployed on modular Arista chassis switches (e.g., core/aggregation platforms) configured with redundant supervisor engines for stateful switchover, where ARISTA-REDUNDANCY-MIB SNMP monitoring flags an unstable or unexpectedly active/standby supervisor.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ARISTA-REDUNDANCY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Arista modular chassis switch with dual supervisor modules

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls aristaRedundancyUnitStateTable/aristaRedundancyUnitStateEntry, indexed by aristaRedundancyUnitId, to read aristaRedundancyUnitState and aristaRedundancyUnitStateEntryTime for each supervisor. Combined with aristaRedundancyLastSwOverReason and aristaRedundancyHistory/aristaRedundancyNotifications, this reveals whether a recent failover was a manual switchover or an unplanned supervisor fault. An alert would fire if the standby unit reports a non-standby state, or if switchover events recur frequently, indicating flaky supervisor hardware.

What Can Be Monitored

  • supervisor/unit redundancy state
  • redundancy protocol operational mode
  • last switchover reason
  • state entry timestamp
  • switchover history and notifications
