Description: Arista EOS configuration management including change tracking and rollback support.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ARISTA-CONFIG-MAN-MIB?

ARISTA-CONFIG-MAN-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Arista Networks that tracks configuration-management events on EOS-based switches, recording when the running configuration changes and through what mechanism. Its central aristaCmdHistoryEventTable logs each config event with aristaCmdHistoryEventTime, the initiating aristaCmdHistoryEventCommandSource (commandLine or snmp), and the ConfigHistoryEventMedium values for aristaCmdHistoryEventConfigSource/Destination (running, startup, url, session, etc.), plus the associated URL scheme objects when a copy involves flash, ftp, or http. The standalone aristaCmdHistoryRunningLastChanged object gives a quick sysUpTime-based indicator of the last running-config edit, and an aristaConfigManEvent notification carries the full event detail to a management station in near real time. This is a control-plane audit/change-tracking MIB rather than a hardware-health MIB, useful for verifying who or what changed a switch's configuration and when. Administrators can download the ARISTA-CONFIG-MAN-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser for building configuration change-audit trails on Arista infrastructure.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ARISTA-CONFIG-MAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Arista EOS switches (all Arista Networks switching platforms running EOS)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls aristaCmdHistoryRunningLastChanged periodically and compares it against a known-good baseline sysUpTime value; if it advances unexpectedly, they walk aristaCmdHistoryEventTable to find the corresponding aristaCmdHistoryEventCommandSource and aristaCmdHistoryEventConfigSource, distinguishing an authorized CLI change from an unexpected SNMP-set that may indicate configuration drift or unauthorized access.

What Can Be Monitored

  • running-configuration last-changed timestamp
  • configuration event history table entries
  • command source (CLI vs SNMP) per event
  • configuration source/destination medium
  • config source/destination URL scheme
