What Is ARISTA-MAU-MIB?

ARISTA-MAU-MIB is an Arista Networks vendor extension to the standard IANA-MAU-MIB, defining OBJECT-IDENTITY values under aristaDot3MauType for optical/copper transceiver and MAU types not yet covered by the IANA registry -- for example aristaDot3MauType100GbaseCR4, aristaDot3MauType40GbaseLR4, aristaDot3MauType10GbaseZR, and various DWDM/CWDM coherent variants. Rather than defining tables of its own, it supplies identifier constants that populate the standard dot3MauType/ifMauType objects when an Arista EOS interface uses a transceiver type Arista added ahead of IANA standardization, and several entries are marked deprecated once IANA later assigns an equivalent standard OID. This is useful for accurately decoding what optic -- copper DAC versus long-haul DWDM, for instance -- a given interface's MAU type value represents on an Arista switch, particularly for interfaces populated with newer 40G/100G optics. It depends on IANA-MAU-MIB/MAU-MIB for the underlying MAU table structure and ARISTA-SMI-MIB for its enterprise OID placement. It is deployed on Arista EOS switches wherever transceiver/MAU type reporting is polled, and engineers use the ARISTA-MAU-MIB MIB Browser view of this module to resolve those OIDs into physical media descriptions.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ARISTA-MAU-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Arista Networks EOS switches (all platforms reporting dot3 MAU/transceiver types)

Monitoring Examples

An operator resolves the ifMauType value reported for a 100G interface against aristaDot3MauType100GbaseCR4 or aristaDot3MauType100GDwdmCoherent OBJECT-IDENTITYs to confirm what optic type is installed; a MAU type resolving to a deprecated identity like aristaDot3MauType40GbaseSR4 would flag that the device's EOS version predates the corresponding IANA-MAU-MIB standard assignment.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MAU/transceiver type identification per interface
  • optic type classification (copper/DAC, multimode, DWDM/CWDM coherent)
  • deprecated vs current MAU type identity status
  • revision history of supported optic types
