Description: Arista EOS entity sensor extensions for transceiver and environmental sensor data.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ARISTA-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB?

ARISTA-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB is an Arista Networks EOS extension that augments the standard IETF ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB's entPhySensorTable with threshold support for environmental sensors such as voltage and temperature sensors found throughout an Arista switch. It exposes per-sensor low/high warning and critical threshold values along with a human-readable status description, and can generate notifications when a sensor value crosses a configured threshold. This is a textbook hardware-health monitoring MIB: it lets an operator know not just a sensor's raw reading (from the base ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB) but whether that reading is approaching or has already crossed a warning or critical limit for temperature or voltage, directly supporting proactive detection of overheating or power-related faults. It explicitly depends on and augments the IETF ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB, so it must be read together with that standard module's entPhySensorTable to get full sensor context. It is deployed on Arista EOS-based data-center switches for environmental and hardware health monitoring and alerting. Engineers can download the ARISTA-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ARISTA-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Arista Networks EOS-based switches

Monitoring Examples

aristaEntSensorThresholdTable/aristaEntSensorThresholdEntry augments a corresponding entPhySensorTable row with aristaEntSensorThresholdLowWarning, aristaEntSensorThresholdLowCritical, aristaEntSensorThresholdHighWarning, and aristaEntSensorThresholdHighCritical, letting an admin determine whether a switch's temperature or voltage sensor is nearing or has crossed a critical limit. aristaEntSensorStatusDescr supplies human-readable context for that sensor's condition, and together with the base MIB's sensor value this allows an NMS to alert on an overheating component before it causes a hardware fault.

What Can Be Monitored

  • sensor low/high warning thresholds
  • sensor low/high critical thresholds
  • sensor status description
  • temperature/voltage sensor readings (via base ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB)
  • threshold-crossing notification events
