Description: Alteon content switch physical MIB for managing hardware inventory, chassis slots, and physical interface status.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ALTEON-CS-PHYSICAL-MIB?
ALTEON-CS-PHYSICAL-MIB is part of Alteon's (Nortel/Radware content-switch heritage) AlteonOS MIB family; despite its "physical" name, per its module description and sample objects this particular module actually models Layer 2 configuration, statistics, and VLAN information rather than chassis/slot physical inventory. It defines VLAN capacity limits (vlanMaxEnt, vlanMaxVlanID) and a current VLAN configuration table (vlanCurCfgTable/Entry) with per-VLAN name, member ports, bandwidth contract, spanning-tree group, jumbo-frame, and MAC-learning settings, organized under layer2Configs/layer2Stats/layer2Info groups. Its monitoring value is primarily configuration and L2 operational visibility: administrators verify VLAN membership, spanning-tree grouping, and per-VLAN settings like jumbo-frame support and bandwidth contracts, useful for diagnosing VLAN misconfiguration rather than hardware faults. It complements Alteon's broader physical/chassis and Layer 3 MIB modules as part of the full AlteonOS management suite. It is deployed on Alteon content/application switches in load-balancing deployments where L2 VLAN configuration needs to be audited or automated via SNMP. Engineers can download the ALTEON-CS-PHYSICAL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALTEON-CS-PHYSICAL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Alteon (Nortel/Radware) content/application switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll vlanCurCfgTable to confirm vlanCurCfgPorts and vlanCurCfgStg for a given vlanCurCfgVlanId, checking vlanCurCfgJumbo and vlanCurCfgBwmContract when diagnosing throughput issues on a specific VLAN. If a device unexpectedly can't reach others on the same VLAN, comparing vlanCurCfgVlanName and port membership across switches would reveal a VLAN ID or naming mismatch. vlanMaxEnt and vlanMaxVlanID give the platform's VLAN capacity limits for planning purposes.
What Can Be Monitored
- VLAN membership/ports
- VLAN name
- spanning-tree group per VLAN
- jumbo frame setting per VLAN
- bandwidth contract per VLAN
- VLAN capacity limits

RFC description
Provides physical hardware and chassis management information for Radware Alteon ADC switches and Nortel BladeCenter Layer 2-3 GbE switch modules. Monitors physical components, temperature, and hardware status.
Start monitoring Alteon (Nortel/Radware) Cheetah-based application switches (legacy) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
