Description: Alteon Integrated Switch Daemon platform MIB for managing system-level parameters on ISD-based switch platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ALTEON-ISD-PLATFORM-MIB?

ALTEON-ISD-PLATFORM-MIB covers the Alteon integrated Switch Daemon (iSD) platform, a clustered service-appliance architecture (e.g., for SSL or content services) from Alteon WebSystems. It exposes cluster membership and topology data, per-node operational status, firmware/image version tracking, and common event/alarm notification objects. Its central monitoring value is software and hardware status of each cluster member: isdOperStatus flags a node that has gone down, isdVersion and the isdImageTable track firmware/software version consistency across the cluster, and isdCurrentTime helps catch clock drift between nodes. It is an Alteon-proprietary MIB that is not derived from a standard cluster MIB but is designed to work with the vendor's own chassis/module identification scheme. It is deployed on Alteon iSD service-appliance clusters providing services such as SSL offload or content services in data centers. Engineers can download the ALTEON-ISD-PLATFORM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALTEON-ISD-PLATFORM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Alteon iSD (integrated Switch Daemon) service appliance cluster

Monitoring Examples

isdClusterTable/isdClusterEntry (indexed by isdIndex) exposes isdIP, isdType, and isdOperStatus, letting an admin spot a cluster member that has stopped responding or changed role. isdImageTable/isdImageEntry records isdVersion per image, so mismatched firmware versions across cluster nodes become visible, and isdCurrentTime lets the admin catch a node whose clock has drifted out of sync with the rest of the cluster.

What Can Be Monitored

  • cluster member operational status
  • cluster member IP address and type
  • firmware/software image version per node
  • system current time/clock sync
  • cluster membership and node count

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using numberOfCurrentAlarms OID:

Select an Alteon (WebSystems) iSD service-appliance cluster (legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type numberOfCurrentAlarms into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of currently active alarms in the system. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Gauge32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
