Description: Alteon TS switch bandwidth management MIB for traffic shaping and bandwidth policy configuration on TS platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ALTEON-TS-BWM-MIB?

This is an Alteon (later Nortel/Radware) Traffic Shaping (TS) series switch MIB for bandwidth management, controlling and monitoring traffic-shaping and QoS bandwidth policies. It exposes configuration objects split into current (active) and new (pending) configuration generations for global bandwidth-management settings and per-policy tables, including policy enforcement state, ToS/DSCP marking rules, and SMTP-related notification settings. Its primary use is configuration/policy management rather than hardware health, though the current-vs-new generation state objects (bwmCurCfgGenState/bwmNewCfgGenState) let an admin monitor whether a pending configuration change has actually been applied, functioning as a software-configuration status check. It is a self-contained Alteon enterprise MIB without notable dependence on external standard MIBs. It's typically deployed on Alteon TS-series application-traffic-management switches where bandwidth-shaping policies enforce per-application or per-class traffic limits. Engineers can download the ALTEON-TS-BWM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALTEON-TS-BWM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Alteon TS-series traffic-shaping switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would compare bwmCurCfgGenState against bwmNewCfgGenState to verify that a staged bandwidth-management policy change has been committed. Polling bwmCurCfgPolicyTable/bwmCurCfgPolicyTableEntry by bwmCurCfgPolicyIndx shows each policy's ToS-in/ToS-out marking (bwmCurCfgPolicyTosIn, bwmCurCfgPolicyTosOut) and enforcement flag (bwmCurCfgGenEnforcePolicy). If bwmPolicyTableMaxEnt is reached, new bandwidth policies cannot be added, which would explain a failed policy provisioning attempt.

What Can Be Monitored

  • bandwidth policy enforcement state
  • pending vs active configuration generation
  • per-policy ToS/DSCP marking
  • policy table capacity
  • SMTP notification user settings
