What Is ALTEON-ROOT-MIB?

ALTEON-ROOT-MIB is a structural, top-level enterprise MIB from Alteon WebSystems that defines the root OID branches (such as switch, ics, and personalContentCache) under which all other Alteon product-specific MIB modules register their objects. It contains no runtime data objects of its own - it is purely an OID registration/naming module. Consequently it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status; that responsibility belongs entirely to the product MIBs (e.g., the Layer-4, iSD platform, and hardware-stats MIBs) that hang off the branches this module defines. Every other Alteon MIB implicitly depends on this module for its place in the enterprise OID tree, so an ALTEON-ROOT-MIB reference is mainly useful for tracing which branch a given product MIB registers under. It is present, indirectly, on any Alteon WebSystems device, since all vendor MIBs reference its OID hierarchy.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALTEON-ROOT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Radware Alteon D-line (2024) — current application delivery controller/load balancer descended from the Alteon WebSystems line Nortel bought in 2000 and sold to Radware in 2009

Monitoring Examples

This module defines only OID tree nodes - alteon, registration, private-mibs, personalContentCache, ics, and switch - with no MODULE-IDENTITY description text and no runtime-monitorable objects of its own; it is a pure registration/naming module that other Alteon MIBs (such as the Layer-4 or iSD platform MIBs) register beneath, so there is no realistic "polling" scenario to describe for it directly.
