Description: Alcatel NMC proxy agent that translates CMIP events and fault notifications from Alcatel 4400 PBX telephony systems into SNMP traps
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ALCATEL-NMC-PROXY-AGENT-MIB?
ALCATEL-NMC-PROXY-AGENT-MIB is an Alcatel MIB for the NMC (Network Management Center) proxy agent that bridges the OSI/CMIP-based management interface of Alcatel 4400 PBX telephony switches into SNMP, allowing SNMP-based NMS tools to receive fault and event notifications from the PBX. It exposes a generic OSI-style managed-object naming structure (topClass/baseClass with a chain of classId/rdnValue pairs and an rdnDepth) used to encode the CMIP distinguished name of the PBX object that raised an event, rather than device-specific counters. Its practical monitoring value is in surfacing fault/alarm notifications from the underlying Alcatel 4400 telephony hardware and software (e.g. line card faults, trunk failures, or system alarms) as translated SNMP traps, making it a fault/traps-oriented MIB rather than one exposing continuous performance metrics. It explicitly depends on the CMIP/OSI systems-management model of the Alcatel 4400 PBX (nmc4755 object identity) that this proxy translates from. It is deployed at the boundary between an Alcatel 4400 PBX/NMC management system and a standard SNMP-based NMS, wherever telephony fault events need to reach IP-based monitoring tools, and an ALCATEL-NMC-PROXY-AGENT-MIB download lets administrators load the module into their MIB browser for reference.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALCATEL-NMC-PROXY-AGENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Alcatel 4400 PBX telephony systems
- Alcatel NMC proxy agent gateway
Monitoring Examples
An admin would use the traps generated via this MIB, decoding the classId1-5/rdnValue1-5 chain (with rdnDepth indicating how many levels are populated) against topClass/baseClass to identify exactly which CMIP-managed object within the Alcatel 4400 PBX (a specific card, trunk, or module) raised the alarm. Receiving a trap with a deep rdnDepth pointing to a particular line card's classId would tell the admin a specific hardware component within the PBX has faulted, without needing direct CMIP access.
What Can Be Monitored
- fault/alarm event notifications
- managed object class identifiers
- distinguished-name depth of faulting object
- relative distinguished name values per level
