Description: Alcatel OmniSwitch Quantized Congestion Notification MIB for IEEE 802.1Qau data center congestion management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ALCATEL-IND1-QCN-MIB?

ALCATEL-IND1-QCN-MIB is an Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch (Birds Of Prey) enterprise MIB implementing IEEE 802.1Qau Quantized Congestion Notification for data-center Ethernet fabrics, tied into the switch's internal System Capability Manager. It exposes per-component and per-port configuration data such as congestion notification message (CNM) VLAN tagging, component IDs, per-port QCN priority mappings, and congestion notification control protocol (CNCP) statistics/reset controls. Its primary monitoring value is software/feature-state visibility into congestion control on switch ports — whether QCN is active on a port, its priority assignment, and counters that can be cleared to track ongoing congestion events, rather than physical hardware health. It relies on the IEEE 802.1Qau standard as its functional basis, layered with Alcatel-specific capability-manager plumbing. It is used in Alcatel data-center switch deployments where lossless or congestion-sensitive Ethernet traffic (e.g., converged Ethernet, iSCSI) needs active congestion management. Engineers can download the ALCATEL-IND1-QCN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALCATEL-IND1-QCN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch (Birds Of Prey product line, data-center switches)

Monitoring Examples

An admin would walk alaQcnPortInstanceTable/alaQcnPortInstanceEntry, keyed by alaQcnPIIfIndex, to see the QCN priority (alaQcnPIPriority) configured per port and detect ports that have drifted from the intended congestion-priority scheme. alaQcnPICncpStatsClear and alaQcnPICncpReset are operational controls used to reset congestion-notification counters after remediation, useful when diagnosing repeated congestion events on a given interface. alaQcnGlobalTable entries (alaQcnGlobalCompId, alaQcnGlobalCNMVlanTag) let an operator confirm the correct CNM VLAN is in use system-wide.

What Can Be Monitored

  • QCN admin priority per port
  • CNM VLAN tag configuration
  • component ID assignments
  • CNCP statistics reset/clear events
  • per-port congestion priority reset state
