Description: Alcatel OmniSwitch capability manager MIB for tracking and managing licensed feature capabilities per chassis.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ALCATEL-IND1-CAPMAN-MIB?

ALCATEL-IND1-CAPMAN-MIB is an Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch (Birds of Prey) MIB for the System Capability Manager, a centralized process that reports hardware capability limits and lets certain features be capped below the hardware maximum. It exposes per-VRF and per-TCAM (ternary content-addressable memory) capability and limit tables, mirror-session capability, software licensing configuration, and IPMC (IP multicast) maximum limits. Its monitoring value is chiefly software/hardware resource management: administrators can track how close a VRF or TCAM context is to its configured or hardware limit, a leading indicator of resource exhaustion that could cause route or ACL programming failures. It is a proprietary Alcatel module that references internal hardware/ASIC resource concepts rather than any external standard. It is typically used on OmniSwitch chassis with multiple VRFs or TCAM-consuming features (ACLs, QoS, multicast) enabled simultaneously. Engineers can download the ALCATEL-IND1-CAPMAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALCATEL-IND1-CAPMAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch (Birds of Prey) chassis switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll alaCapManVrfTable/alaCapManVrfEntry, reading alaCapabilityVrfCapability against alaCapabilityVrfLimit, to see how much VRF capacity is configured versus available on the chassis. Similarly, walking alaCapManTcamTable and comparing alaCapabilityTcamCapability, alaCapabilityTcamMode, and the configured limit reveals whether TCAM resources for ACLs or QoS rules are nearing exhaustion. If alaCapabilityVrfLimit is set below actual usage, new VRF creation would begin failing, a condition this table surfaces before it becomes a production incident.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VRF capability vs. limit
  • TCAM capability, mode, and limit
  • mirror session capability
  • software licensing configuration
  • IP multicast (IPMC) maximum limits
