Description: Alcatel OmniSwitch extension of IEEE 802.1X Port Access Entity MIB for network access authentication management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ALCATEL-IEEE8021-PAE-MIB?

ALCATEL-IEEE8021-PAE-MIB is Alcatel's extension of the standard IEEE8021-PAE-MIB for the 7x50 (OmniSwitch-family) product line, adding vendor-specific management for 802.1X Port Access Entity (PAE) authentication, including RADIUS server policy configuration for port-based network access control. It exposes configuration objects for per-port 802.1X authentication settings and RADIUS policy parameters such as source address, admin state, retry attempts, and timeout, alongside the RADIUS server table itself. Monitoring with this MIB is oriented toward the software/configuration health of the network-access-control feature: confirming a port's 802.1X auth configuration and its associated RADIUS policy are enabled and correctly parameterized (admin state, retry/timeout), which matters because a broken RADIUS policy can silently block or fail-open user authentication. It has an explicit, named dependency on the standard IEEE8021-PAE-MIB, of which it is an extension for the Alcatel 7x50 platform. It is deployed on Alcatel-Lucent 7x50/OmniSwitch devices implementing 802.1X port-based access control with RADIUS-backed authentication. Engineers can download the ALCATEL-IEEE8021-PAE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALCATEL-IEEE8021-PAE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Alcatel-Lucent 7x50/OmniSwitch switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll alxdot1xAuthConfigTable entries for alxDot1xAuthRadiusPlcy per port, then check the referenced alxDot1xRadiusServerPlcyTable/alxDot1xRadiusServerTable entries for alxDot1xRadiusPlcyAdminState, alxDot1xRadiusPlcyRetryAttempts, and alxDot1xRadiusPlcyTimeout. If alxDot1xRadiusPlcyAdminState shows a policy as disabled or the retry/timeout values are set too aggressively, that would explain a spike in failed 802.1X authentications on ports referencing that policy, distinguishing a RADIUS-policy misconfiguration from an actual RADIUS server outage.

What Can Be Monitored

  • 802.1X port authentication configuration
  • RADIUS policy admin state
  • RADIUS retry attempts/timeout
  • RADIUS server policy assignment
