What Is AISLCDISCRETE-MIB?

AISLCDISCRETE-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Applied Innovation Inc. that models discrete (binary) input and output points on AI-series Serial Line Card (SLC) modules used in telecom environmental/alarm monitoring systems such as the AIscout and AIscout2 product lines. Its aiSLCDiscreteInputTable exposes each configured input point's normal-versus-alarm state mapping (aislcdinNormalInput, aislcdinAlarmSeverity), current reading (aislcdinCurrentInput, aislcdinCurrentState), TL1 access identifiers for craft-interface integration, and debounce timing, while the companion aiSLCDiscreteOutputTable models controllable relay outputs with energize/de-energize state, momentary timeout behavior, and a boolean aislcdoutEnergizeExpression that can drive an output from combinations of other discrete or analog inputs. A separate set of scalar objects — aislcdiscPowerSupplyStatus, aislcdiscFanStatus, aislcdiscFiber1/2TransmitterStatus, aislcdiscAnalogInputPowerSupplyStatus — reports the SLC card's own internal hardware health. This makes it a dual-purpose MIB covering both external alarm-point monitoring (door contacts, generator status, etc.) and the SLC card's own power/fan/fiber-transmitter condition. The AISLCDISCRETE-MIB MIB is deployed on Applied Innovation SLC-based remote telemetry units in central-office and cell-site environmental monitoring.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AISLCDISCRETE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls aislcdinCurrentState across the aiSLCDiscreteInputTable to find any point reporting critical or major, then reads aislcdinCurrentStateText for a human-readable description of that alarm; a critical aislcdinCurrentState on a point whose aislcdintl1AlarmType indicates an environmental condition would flag something like an open door or high-temperature alarm at a remote site.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using aislcdiscPowerSupplyStatus OID:

Select an Applied Innovation AIscout/AIscout2 remote telemetry unit (legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type aislcdiscPowerSupplyStatus into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. Status of the power supply. okay(1) or trouble(2). On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'okay', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
