Description: Monitors fan status and rotational speed on AI-series network access devices for hardware health management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is AISYSCFGFAN-MIB?

AISYSCFGFAN-MIB is a vendor MIB dedicated to fan monitoring on AI-series network access devices, focused entirely on cooling-hardware health. It exposes an aggregate fan status object plus a per-fan table listing fan index, description, and individual operational status, along with a trap object for fan-related alerts. This is a direct hardware-health MIB: it is used to detect a failed, degraded, or missing cooling fan before the resulting thermal stress causes CPU, memory, or other component failures. No dependency on other MIBs is indicated by the available material. It would be deployed on any AI-series chassis or access device where fan trays are field-replaceable and administrators need proactive cooling-failure alerts, making AISYSCFGFAN-MIB SNMP monitoring a standard part of hardware health checks on AI-series devices.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AISYSCFGFAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • AI-series network access device/chassis

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll aiSCFanAgregateStatus for a quick overall cooling health check, then walk aiSCFanTable/aiSCFanEntry (indexed by aiSCFanIndex) to read aiSCFanDescription and aiSCFanStatus per fan and pinpoint which specific fan has failed or is running abnormally. A status change captured via aiSCFanTrapInfo would trigger an SNMP trap notification so operators can react before thermal shutdown.

What Can Be Monitored

  • aggregate fan status
  • per-fan operational status
  • fan identification/description
  • fan fault trap events

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using aiSCFanAgregateStatus OID:

Select an Applied Innovation network access equipment (legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type aiSCFanAgregateStatus into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the aggregate status of all fan units in the system. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'okay', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
