Description: Manages port-based VLAN assignment and VLAN membership on AI-series Ethernet switch devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is AIPORTVLAN-MIB?
AIPORTVLAN-MIB is a vendor-specific module from Applied Innovation for configuring port-based VLANs on its AI-series Ethernet switch products. It exposes a VLAN configuration table defining each VLAN's name and overlap behavior, and a separate membership table mapping switch ports to VLANs with row-status-controlled add/remove semantics. Rather than hardware health, this MIB's monitoring value is configuration-state visibility — confirming which ports belong to which VLAN and detecting unintended overlaps or misconfigurations that could cause traffic leakage between VLANs. It is a self-contained configuration MIB but is naturally used alongside AIHUBPORT-MIB for port/interface identification on the same switch platform. It's deployed on Applied Innovation managed Ethernet switches used in remote access and telecom/utility network environments requiring simple Layer 2 segmentation. Engineers can download the AIPORTVLAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AIPORTVLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Applied Innovation AI-series managed Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll portVlanMembershipTable, indexed by portVlanMembershipVlanIndex and portVlanMembershipPortIndex, to verify portVlanMembershipStatus confirms an active row for every port that should be in a given VLAN. portVlanCnfTable's portVlanName and portVlanOverlap fields are checked when troubleshooting unexpected inter-VLAN traffic, since an overlapping VLAN configuration can bridge traffic that should be isolated. Finding a port missing its expected membership row typically explains why a device on that port can't reach others in the same VLAN.
What Can Be Monitored
- VLAN name/definition
- VLAN overlap configuration
- port-to-VLAN membership status
- per-port VLAN assignment
