This counter holds the background errored block count from a historical 15-minute window on the remote equipment. Network teams compare multiple intervals to spot whether errors cluster or spread evenly — clusters point to temperature spikes or congestion events. If interval 10 shows 2500 BBEs while others show ~200, that specific 15-minute window was problematic.
