This OID specifies whether upper-layer protocols are carried transparently or translated between Frame Relay (RFC 1490) and ATM (RFC 1483) formats at the interworking boundary. Network engineers select this mode during deployment to match the protocol conversion strategy needed for their applications. For example, transparent mode forwards IP over Frame Relay unchanged to the ATM side; translation mode converts it to RFC 1483 format.
