Description: Manages Actidata tape storage systems including drive status, cartridge inventory, and backup operation monitoring.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ACTIDATA-MIB?

ACTIDATA-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB for Actidata enterprise tape storage and backup systems, covering unit identification, environmental sensors, and relay/alarm outputs. It exposes basic unit identity objects (unitName, unitVersion), a set of relay control outputs (relay1, relay2) likely used for alarm signaling, and an indexed sensor table (nv1Sensortable/nv1SensortableEntry) with per-sensor value, validity, type, description, and ID (sensor1Value, sensor1Valid, sensor1Type, sensor1Description, sensor1ID). This MIB is heavily oriented toward hardware/environmental status monitoring, environmental sensors (e.g. temperature or door/enclosure sensors) feeding relay-driven alarms are exactly the kind of physical health indicators that reveal problems like overheating, an open enclosure, or a failed sensor before they cause data loss on the attached tape media. It sits in Actidata's own enterprise MIB branch and relies on standard SNMP SMI conventions rather than other vendor MIBs. It is typically deployed on Actidata tape library/autoloader hardware used for enterprise backup in data centers. Engineers can download the ACTIDATA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ACTIDATA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Actidata tape backup/storage unit (autoloader/library)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll the nv1Sensortable entries to read sensor1Value alongside sensor1Valid for each sensor1ID, watching for a sensor showing an out-of-range value or an invalid flag that indicates a failed temperature or environmental sensor inside the tape unit. If relay1 or relay2 shows an activated/alarm state, this typically corresponds to a triggered environmental threshold, such as overheating, prompting the admin to check unitName/unitVersion to identify the affected unit for service. This lets operators catch environmental faults in a tape backup unit before they cause media or drive damage.

What Can Be Monitored

  • environmental sensor value/validity
  • sensor type/description
  • relay/alarm output state
  • unit identity and firmware version

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using relay1 OID:

Select an Actidata tape backup/storage unit as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type relay1 into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the relay 1 output. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value drifts significantly from its normal baseline, since an unexpected change often points to a real underlying issue. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
