What Is BROCADE-FABRIC-MIB?
BROCADE-FABRIC-MIB is a Brocade Communications Systems MIB for the Switch Fabric Module on NetIron XMR/MLX core routing platforms. It exposes per-fabric-module statistics including dropped-packet counters and fabric/front-end module identifiers, plus a set of fabric-related SNMP notifications. It directly supports hardware health monitoring of the switch fabric backplane -- rising dropped-packet counts on a specific fabric module indicate a failing or degraded fabric card, while the notification objects report fabric module state changes (such as going offline) as fault events. As a proprietary Brocade enterprise MIB it is typically used alongside standard IF-MIB and Brocade chassis/FRU inventory MIBs for complete hardware visibility. It is deployed on high-end Brocade (later Extreme-owned) NetIron XMR and MLX platforms that use a fabric-based switching backplane, monitored via the BROCADE-FABRIC-MIB MIB.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BROCADE-FABRIC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Brocade NetIron XMR core router
- Brocade NetIron MLX router
Monitoring Examples
An admin polls brcdFabricStatsTable (indexed by brcdFabricSfmId and brcdFabricSfmFeId) tracking brcdFabricDropMAC0Count through brcdFabricDropMAC3Count per fabric element; a sudden rise in dropped packets on one SFM points to a failing switch fabric module or interconnect. brcdFabricNotifications would fire an SNMP trap when a fabric module changes operational state, letting NOC staff correlate the counter spike with the actual fault event.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-fabric-module dropped packet counts
- switch fabric module identifiers
- fabric fault/state-change notifications
