Category: Optical and WDM

Description: Manages Appian Communications optical networking equipment, providing configuration and performance monitoring for WDM transport systems.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ACP-MIB?

ACP-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB for the Access Control Processor (referred to as TSODA/MC1) within Appian Communications' optical WDM transport equipment, managing per-service encryption/scrambling and access authorization on optical channels. It exposes a status table (acpStatusTable) covering per-unit and per-service parameters such as encryption type (acpEncryptType), scrambling mode (acpScramblingMode), unit address, and mapped input/output interfaces, plus service authorization objects (acpServAuthorization, acpServAuthReaCode). This MIB is centered on service-level configuration and authorization status monitoring rather than classic hardware sensors, an operator uses it to confirm whether individual optical services are authorized and correctly secured (encrypted/scrambled) end-to-end, and to trace which physical input/output interface each service maps to. It is part of Appian's optical transport MIB suite and would typically be used alongside other optical-performance MIBs covering the underlying WDM transport layer. Typical deployment is on Appian Communications WDM optical transport network elements used by carriers for metro/regional optical networking. Engineers can download the ACP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ACP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Motorola TSODA/MC1 Access Control Processor equipment (legacy telecom access system)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll acpStatusTable / acpStatusEntry indexed by acpUnitIndex and acpServiceIndex to check acpEncryptType and acpScramblingMode for a given service, confirming that a service expected to be encrypted actually shows the correct encryption type rather than none. Checking acpServAuthorization together with acpServAuthReaCode for a service would reveal whether that service is authorized, and if not, the reason code for denial. Cross-referencing acpInputInterface and acpOutputInterface would confirm the service is mapped through the correct optical ports.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-service encryption type
  • scrambling mode
  • service authorization status
  • authorization reason code
  • input/output interface mapping
