Organization: Huawei 3Com Technologies Co., Ltd.

Last Updated: 2005-06-04

Category: IP and Core Protocols, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: Manages IP tunnel interfaces on H3C/3Com routers, including GRE, IPIP, and IPv6 tunnel configuration with endpoint addressing and encapsulation parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is A3COM-HUAWEI-TUNNEL-MIB?

This MIB manages IP tunnel interfaces -- GRE, IPIP, and IPv6-in-IP tunnels -- on H3C/3Com routers. It exposes configuration data such as encapsulation method, hop limit, TOS/flow-label handling, and local/remote endpoint addressing, indexed by tunnel interface. Per the module description it also supports monitoring tunnels, so an operator can check parameters like hop limit and endpoint address consistency to detect misconfigured or non-functional tunnels. It builds on IETF tunnel MIB conventions and standard ifTable interface indexing. It's deployed in WAN/VPN environments where 3Com/H3C routers terminate GRE or IPv6 transition tunnels. Engineers can download the A3COM-HUAWEI-TUNNEL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A3COM-HUAWEI-TUNNEL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C/3Com routers

Monitoring Examples

An admin would walk h3cTunnelIfTable, examining h3cTunnelIfLocalInetAddress and h3cTunnelIfRemoteInetAddress for each h3cTunnelIfEntry to verify tunnel endpoints match the intended topology, and check h3cTunnelIfEncapsMethod to confirm the correct encapsulation (GRE vs IPIP vs IPv6) is configured. Watching h3cTunnelIfHopLimit and h3cTunnelIfTOS helps diagnose why traffic through a specific tunnel is being dropped or mis-prioritized. The h3cTunnelInetConfigTable provides a complementary view for cross-checking address-family-specific tunnel settings.

What Can Be Monitored

  • tunnel encapsulation method
  • local and remote tunnel endpoint addresses
  • hop limit / TTL
  • TOS and flow label settings
  • IP security option
  • tunnel address type (IPv4/IPv6)
