What Is A3COM-HUAWEI-MPLS-BGP-VPN-MIB?

This is a proprietary H3C/3Com (Huawei-3Com joint venture) MIB modeled on the IETF MPLS/BGP Layer 3 VPN architecture draft, used to manage and monitor VPN routing/forwarding (VRF) instances on H3C/3Com routers. It exposes configuration data such as configured and active VRF counts, per-interface VPN bindings, IP addressing, label-edge classification, and VRF table configuration. From a monitoring standpoint it is used to check the operational status of VPN interfaces and VRF instances — confirming that a VRF row is active, that an interface's VPN classification and IP binding are correctly provisioned, and that the count of active VRFs matches expectations, which helps detect misconfigured or dropped VPN sites. It is explicitly derived from the IETF MPLS/BGP-VPN architecture draft (Rosen/Viswanathan/Callon), so it depends conceptually on that MPLS/BGP-VPN standard even though the object identifiers are vendor-specific. Typical deployment is on H3C/3Com provider-edge (PE) routers delivering MPLS Layer 3 VPN services to enterprise or carrier customers. Engineers can download the A3COM-HUAWEI-MPLS-BGP-VPN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A3COM-HUAWEI-MPLS-BGP-VPN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C/3Com MPLS provider-edge router

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll mplsVpnConfiguredVrfs versus mplsVpnActiveVrfs to detect a VRF that failed to activate, and check mplsVpnInterfaceConfTable/mplsVpnInterfaceConfEntry rows (via mplsVpnInterfaceConfRowStatus) to confirm a customer-facing interface is correctly bound to its VRF with the right mplsVpnInterfaceIpAddress and mplsVpnInterfaceIpAddressMask. A mismatch between configured and active VRF counts, or a row stuck in a non-active mplsVpnInterfaceConfRowStatus, would indicate a provisioning or routing failure on that PE router. The mplsVpnVrfConfTable provides the per-VRF configuration used to cross-check these values.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configured VRF count
  • active VRF count
  • per-interface VPN binding
  • VRF interface IP address/mask
  • interface row status
  • label edge type classification
