Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ZYXEL-SYSTEM-MGMT-MIB?
ZYXEL-SYSTEM-MGMT-MIB is a ZyXEL Communications enterprise MIB covering core system administration on ZyXEL switches, including configuration persistence, firmware/image selection, reboot control, and TFTP-based backup and restore. Objects such as zySysMgmtConfigSave/zySysMgmtBootupConfig and zySysMgmtBootupImage select which of two configuration files or firmware images is active or will be used at next boot, while zySysMgmtReboot and zySysMgmtDefaultConfig trigger a reboot or a full factory-default reset from SNMP. The zyxelSysMgmtTftpServiceSetup subtree drives remote configuration management, letting an operator set a TFTP server IP and filename and then trigger a backupConfig/restoreConfig/mergeConfig action via zySysMgmtTftpAction, tracked through zySysMgmtTftpActionStatus. Health visibility comes from zySysMgmtSysStatus, a BITS object flagging system alarm, temperature, fan RPM, and voltage-range errors, plus zySysMgmtCPUUsage for a CPU-load snapshot, and three notifications (zySysMgmtUncontrolledSystemReset, zySysMgmtControlledSystemReset, zySysMgmtBootImageInconsistence) flag unexpected resets or firmware/image mismatches. It depends on the ZYXEL-ES-SMI enterprise tree for OID placement and is deployed on ZyXEL managed switches, and administrators can download the ZYXEL-SYSTEM-MGMT-MIB file to automate configuration backup and monitor system health.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-SYSTEM-MGMT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- ZyXEL managed switches (ES/GS series)
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls zySysMgmtSysStatus and zySysMgmtCPUUsage on a schedule and subscribes to zySysMgmtUncontrolledSystemReset; a sysTemperatureError or sysFanRPMError bit set alongside an uncontrolled-reset trap would indicate the switch rebooted due to an overheating or cooling-related hardware fault rather than an administrative command.
What Can Be Monitored
- system alarm/temperature/fan/voltage status bits
- CPU utilization snapshot
- active/bootup configuration and firmware image selection
- TFTP backup/restore/merge action status
- controlled vs. uncontrolled system reset events
- boot-image consistency
