Category: ZyXEL VLAN Management

Description: Manages ZyXEL Multicast VLAN Registration for sharing multicast streams across subscriber VLANs efficiently.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZYXEL-MVR-MIB?

ZYXEL-MVR-MIB is a ZyXEL private enterprise MIB for Multicast VLAN Registration (MVR), a feature that lets a single multicast source VLAN deliver streams to subscribers on separate access VLANs without needing full multicast routing between them, placing it in the switching/IPTV multicast configuration category. It exposes MVR configuration such as the multicast VLAN identifier, multicast group ranges, and per-port receiver/source role, along with the resulting group membership the switch has associated with each subscriber port. Its monitoring role is chiefly a software-feature-health one, confirming subscriber ports are correctly joined to the expected multicast groups so IPTV/video delivery works, and revealing membership or configuration mismatches when a channel fails to reach a subscriber. It builds on standard IGMP/IGMP snooping concepts, since MVR is essentially an IGMP-snooping enhancement for cross-VLAN multicast delivery. It is typically deployed on ZyXEL access switches in IPTV/triple-play deployments where a shared multicast VLAN feeds multiple subscriber VLANs. Engineers can download the ZYXEL-MVR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-MVR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ZyXEL managed Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator would check the configured MVR multicast VLAN and group range, then inspect which subscriber ports are currently members of a given multicast group to confirm a customer's set-top box join request was correctly proxied. If a subscriber's port is missing from the expected group's membership list despite an active channel request, that points to an MVR receiver-port misconfiguration or a failed IGMP join rather than a physical connectivity problem. No sample objects were available for this MIB, so specific table names can't be confirmed, but the functional monitoring center is per-port group membership and source/receiver role.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MVR multicast VLAN configuration
  • MVR group address range
  • per-port receiver/source role
  • per-port multicast group membership
