Description: Manages ZyXEL VLAN mapping rules for translating or stacking VLAN IDs at network boundaries.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ZYXEL-VLAN-MAPPING-MIB?
ZYXEL-VLAN-MAPPING-MIB is a ZyXEL private enterprise MIB for VLAN mapping (VLAN ID translation), a feature that translates or stacks customer VLAN IDs at network boundaries so overlapping customer VLAN spaces can share a provider network, placing it in the switching/VLAN-boundary configuration category. It exposes the mapping rules between customer-side and provider-side VLAN IDs, typically on a per-port basis, rather than hardware sensors or fault logs. Its monitoring role is a configuration-correctness one: confirming the mapping table matches provisioning intent so that customer traffic is translated to the correct provider VLAN and not accidentally dropped or crossed with another customer's VLAN. It builds on the standard 802.1Q VLAN tagging model and the switch's bridge/VLAN MIB for the VLANs and ports it references. It is typically deployed on ZyXEL access/aggregation switches at the demarcation point between a customer network and a service provider's Metro Ethernet network, and administrators can download the ZYXEL-VLAN-MAPPING-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-VLAN-MAPPING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- ZyXEL managed Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator would check the configured VLAN ID mapping rule for a given port to confirm a customer's internal VLAN tag is being translated to the correct provider-assigned VLAN ID before reaching the core network. If two customers' traffic ends up mixed on the same provider VLAN, reviewing the mapping table for that port would reveal an incorrect or overlapping translation rule. No sample objects were listed for this MIB, so specific table/column names are unconfirmed, but the functional data is the per-port customer-to-provider VLAN ID mapping.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-port VLAN ID mapping/translation rule
- customer-to-provider VLAN assignment
