Category: ZyXEL VLAN Management

Description: Manages ZyXEL VLAN trunk port configuration for carrying multiple tagged VLANs across switch uplinks.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZYXEL-VLAN-TRUNK-MIB?

ZYXEL-VLAN-TRUNK-MIB is a ZyXEL private enterprise MIB for VLAN trunk port configuration, controlling which tagged VLANs are permitted to traverse a given uplink port, placing it in the switching/VLAN configuration category. It exposes per-port trunk mode enablement and the allowed/permitted VLAN list for each trunk port, rather than counters or hardware sensors. Its monitoring role is configuration-correctness verification: confirming that a trunk port is carrying exactly the VLANs it's supposed to, which helps diagnose situations where a VLAN fails to reach a downstream switch because it's missing from the allowed list, or where an unexpected VLAN leaks across a trunk. It is built directly on the IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging standard and the switch's bridge/VLAN MIB. It is typically deployed on ZyXEL switches at uplinks between access and distribution/core switches carrying multiple VLANs over a single physical or aggregated link, where ZYXEL-VLAN-TRUNK-MIB SNMP monitoring helps confirm each trunk carries exactly the VLANs it should.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-VLAN-TRUNK-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ZyXEL managed Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator would check the allowed VLAN list configured on a trunk port to confirm a newly provisioned VLAN was added to the trunk between an access switch and its uplink. If devices on a particular VLAN can't reach resources beyond the access switch, checking the trunk port's allowed-VLAN list would reveal whether that VLAN was accidentally excluded from the trunk. No sample objects were listed for this MIB, so specific table names are unconfirmed, but the functional data is per-port trunk mode and permitted VLAN membership.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port trunk mode enabled
  • allowed/permitted VLAN list per trunk
  • native/untagged VLAN on trunk
