Description: Manages ZyXEL private VLAN configuration for subscriber port isolation within a shared broadcast domain.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ZYXEL-PRIVATE-VLAN-MIB?
ZYXEL-PRIVATE-VLAN-MIB is a ZyXEL private enterprise MIB for private VLAN (PVLAN) configuration, a feature that isolates individual subscriber or host ports within a shared broadcast domain while still allowing them to reach a common uplink, placing it in the switching/subscriber-isolation configuration category. It exposes the mapping of primary and secondary (isolated/community) VLANs and each port's private-VLAN role, rather than hardware sensors or counters. Its monitoring role is mainly a configuration-correctness one: verifying that ports intended to be isolated from each other are indeed assigned to the correct secondary VLAN role, which is a security-relevant software-configuration check rather than a hardware health check. It builds directly on the switch's standard VLAN/bridge MIB (802.1Q VLAN model) as the base object this feature layers isolation semantics onto. It is typically deployed on ZyXEL access switches in multi-tenant, hosting, or subscriber-aggregation environments where hosts on the same VLAN must not be able to communicate directly with each other, and the ZYXEL-PRIVATE-VLAN-MIB MIB defines the per-port role objects used to verify that isolation policy.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-PRIVATE-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- ZyXEL managed Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would check the private-VLAN role assigned to a given port, such as promiscuous, isolated, or community, to confirm subscriber ports are correctly set to isolated so that peer-to-peer traffic between subscribers is blocked while uplink access remains available. If two subscriber ports that should be mutually isolated can still reach each other, inspecting their assigned private-VLAN roles would reveal a misconfiguration where one was left in a non-isolated mode. No sample objects were provided for this MIB, so specific object names are unconfirmed, but the functional check centers on per-port PVLAN role and primary/secondary VLAN mapping.
What Can Be Monitored
- primary/secondary VLAN mapping
- per-port private VLAN role
- isolated vs. promiscuous port assignment
