Description: Manages ZyXEL IPv6 Neighbor Discovery Protocol for address resolution and router discovery functions.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ZYXEL-IPV6-NDP-MIB?
ZYXEL-IPV6-NDP-MIB is a ZyXEL proprietary MIB covering IPv6 Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP) functions on ZyXEL networking devices, the IPv6 analogue of ARP plus router/prefix discovery. It exposes configuration and state data related to neighbor discovery, such as neighbor cache entries, router discovery behavior, and related IPv6 address-resolution parameters. As a protocol-status MIB it lets an administrator monitor the health of IPv6 address resolution on the device -- for example whether neighbor entries are being learned and remain reachable -- which is a software/protocol-state indicator rather than a physical hardware metric. It builds directly on the IETF IPv6 Neighbor Discovery standard (RFC 4861) and typically complements ZyXEL's other IPv6-related private MIBs. It is typically deployed on ZyXEL routers, switches, or security gateways running dual-stack or IPv6-only networks where administrators need visibility into IPv6 neighbor resolution, and can download the ZYXEL-IPV6-NDP-MIB file to load into their MIB browser for that purpose.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-IPV6-NDP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- ZyXEL router/switch/security gateway
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were provided for this module. Typically such a MIB would expose an IPv6 neighbor cache table that an administrator polls to confirm expected neighbors are in a reachable state and to detect stale or incomplete NDP entries indicating IPv6 connectivity problems, though specific object names cannot be cited here.
What Can Be Monitored
- IPv6 neighbor cache entries
- neighbor reachability state
- router/prefix discovery parameters
- IPv6 address resolution status
