What Is ZTE-AN-MAC-MIB?

ZTE-AN-MAC-MIB is a ZTE Corporation proprietary MIB that defines MAC address forwarding management objects for ZTE Access Node (AN) platforms, rooted under the zxAnBridge branch. It exposes global forwarding-table parameters — aging time (zxAnMacAgingTime, defaulting to 300 seconds per IEEE 802.1D), table capacity (zxAnMacTableCapacity), utilization monitoring interval and current/historical peak utilization (zxAnMacTableCurrUtilization, zxAnMacTableCurrMaxUtilization, zxAnMacTableHisMaxUtilization), and a configurable utilization alarm threshold with clear threshold — alongside the zxAnMacFwdTable itself, which lists unicast forwarding/filtering entries indexed by address status (dynamic, permanent, or static), interface, VLAN, and MAC address, with a RowStatus for static entry provisioning. This lets an operator watch how full the access node's MAC forwarding table is getting and confirm specific static MAC entries are correctly provisioned, which is useful for diagnosing MAC-table exhaustion (a common cause of unicast flooding) or verifying static MAC bindings used for security or fixed-topology forwarding. It depends on ZTE-AN-SMI and ZTE-AN-IF-MIB for its OID root and sub-interface indexing, and on ZTE-AN-TC-MIB for its VlanId textual convention. It is deployed on ZTE broadband access node platforms; administrators can download the ZTE-AN-MAC-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser for that purpose.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZTE-AN-MAC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ZTE Access Node (AN) broadband access platforms

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls zxAnMacTableCurrUtilization and compares it against zxAnMacTableUtilizationThreshold; a current utilization value crossing the configured threshold (default 70 percent) would trigger the zxAnMacTableUtilOverThresh condition, warning that the MAC forwarding table is nearing capacity and new dynamic entries may begin displacing existing ones or causing flooding.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MAC forwarding table aging time
  • MAC table capacity and current utilization
  • utilization threshold alarm state
  • unicast MAC forwarding table entries (dynamic/permanent/static)
  • static MAC entry row status

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using zxAnMacFwdVlanStatsMacs OID:

Select a ZTE Access Node (AN) broadband access platform (MAC forwarding-table aging/utilization/static-entry status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type zxAnMacFwdVlanStatsMacs into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of MAC forwarding entries on the specified VLAN. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
